The Psalm.

The First Lesson.

Ecclesiastes 12:9–end

Here beginneth the 9th verse of the 12th chapter of the book Ecclesiastes.

12:9And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
12:10The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
12:11The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12:12And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
12:13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
12:14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Here endeth the first lesson.

The Magnificat.

My soul + doth magnify the LORD :

Response tune

and my spirit hath rejoiced in GOD my Sav-iour.

For he hath re-GAR-ded :
the lowliness of HIS hand-maid-en.

Response tune

For behold, from HENCE-forth :
all generations shall CALL me bless-ed.

For he that is mighty hath magnified ME :
and ho-LY is his Name.

Response tune

And his mercy is on them that FEAR him :
throughout all GEN-er-a-tions.

He hath shewed strength with his ARM :
he hath scattered the proud in the imagina-TION of their hearts.

Response tune

He hath put down the mighty from their SEAT :
and hath exalted the HUM-ble and meek.

He hath filled the hungry with good THINGS :
and the rich he hath sent EMP-ty a-way.

Response tune

He re-membering his mercy hath holpen his servant IS-rael :
As he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his SEED for ev-er.

Glory be to the Father, and to the SON :
and to THE Ho-ly Ghost :

Response tune

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever SHALL be :
world with-OUT end. A-men.

The Second Lesson.

Acts 9:26–31

Here beginneth the 26th verse of the 9th chapter of the Acts of the Apostles.

9:26And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
9:27But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
9:28And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
9:29And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
9:30Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
9:31Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

Here endeth the second lesson.

The Nunc Dimittis.

For mine eyes have SEEN :
thy SAL-va-tion:

Response tune

Glory be to the Father, and to the SON :
and to THE Holy Ghost:

The Apostles' Creed.

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ
his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead and buried,
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead,
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty:
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead
.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,
The holy catholick Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection + of the body,
And the life everlasting
.

The Lord be with you :

Response tune

And WITH thy² spir²-it.

Let us pray.

And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil
.

The Collect of the Feast of St Barnabas.

O God, the giver of all good gifts, who didst pour out thy Spirit upon thy servant Barnabas and gavest him grace to strengthen others: grant us, by his example, to be generous in our judgements and faithful in our service; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

The Collect for Peace.

O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels and all just works do proceed: Give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give: That both, our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that by thee we being defended from the fear of our enemies may pass our time in rest and quietness: Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

The Collect for Aid against all Perils.

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord: And by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night: For the love of thine only Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
